Dropout & High School Completion

Prior to the 2001-2002 school year, the Vermont Agency of Education published event dropout and high school completion rates in two separate reports. Beginning with the 2001-2002 school year the department now presents event dropout and completion data in a single report along with an estimated cohort completion rate. This change reflects the department's commitment to streamlining data management.

Dropout Report
This report summarizes the number of students grades 7 through 12 who withdraw from secondary schools in Vermont during the school year or preceding summer. Statistics are calculated as an event drop out rate, which is the number of dropouts in a particular grade level divided by the adjusted enrollment for that grade level in a single school year.

Estimated High School Cohort Graduation Rates
This report summarizes the estimated cohort graduation rate for each Vermont public high school for the classes of 1999 and 2000 combined. This rate differs from the annual graduation rate published by the department in that it attempts to estimate the cumulative graduation rate for students who began high school in grade nine, not simply the rate for seniors who subsequently graduate in the Spring of their senior year. For additional information about the report, read the calculation overview.

Graduation Report
Organized by high school, the graduation rate is calculated by dividing the number of promoted 12th-graders by the adjusted 12th-grade enrollment. Data are presented for each Vermont high school.
