Green Ribbon Schools

PROGRAMS & SERVICES:
GREEN RIBBON SCHOOLS

OVERVIEW

Vermont has many schools that have learned how to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; nourish health and fitness awareness among students and staff; and promote environmental literacy. Sustainability education and the awareness of “green” careers is growing, and now those schools will have the chance to be nationally recognized. The Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) has joined the National Green Ribbon Schools Program, piloted in 2010 by the U.S. Department of Education. As a result, AOE will work to identify outstanding green and healthy schools.
