Information Technology (IT)

The Information Technology (IT) division serves the agency in its networking, system development and data administration needs.

Technical Services

This group includes the team's network administration, database administration and system development staff. The staff designs, configures and installs the agency's local area network hardware and software; manages firewalls, application and database servers; and, sets up and maintains personal computers, printers and other technical equipment. This group is responsible for designing guidelines that describe the proper usage of the agency's network, security and backup procedures. The staff is responsible for the development and administration of the agency's internal and Web-based information systems. In addition to the 30-plus systems maintained by this group, they are responsible for the administration of the Education Data Warehouse (EDW). The EDW is a longitudinal information system used by the agency and schools across the state.

Data Management and Analysis

This group provides data administration and support for the agency's core data collections. This work involves business analysis, system testing and data quality control and training for school staff. In addition, this group coordinates the submission of over 150 data reporting requirements to the U.S. Department of Education, is responsible for the operation of the IT helpdesk and designs guidelines regarding data use and ownership.

Education Data Warehouse Policy and Procedures

This document contains the policies and procedures for the acceptable usage of the Education Data Warehouse, security of the warehouse, and maintenance and support of the warehouse. This document also includes an Education Data Warehouse Policy and Procedure Acceptance form that Vermont Agency of Education employees will need to complete and sign before being assigned login access.

School Data and Reports

View reports based on data submitted by school districts/supervisory unions. Each report targets specific information for all towns/schools in Vermont.

Data Collections and Training Materials

During each fiscal year, the agency collects data from Vermont's supervisory unions and school districts. In addition, the agency provides training to help school professionals provide this data. This area provides access to training materials, data collection instructions and forms for submitting data to the agency.
