As the spring 2014 Smarter Balanced (SBAC) Field Test winds down this month, we are turning our attention to a preview period for another essential component of the new assessment system: the Digital Library of formative assessment tools and resources.

Beginning in July 2014, state department educators of the SBAC member states (Vermont is a governing state) will be able to preview the Digital Library, and provide feedback throughout the summer. We are very proud that Vermont has had 24 elementary, middle and high school teachers create resources, aligned to the Common Core, which will support K–12 educators across Consortium member states as formative assessment strategies in their day-to-day classroom work in adjusting teaching to improve student learning. Additionally, the Digital Library will include more than a hundred commissioned interactive assessment literacy modules and exemplar instructional modules in ELA/Literacy and Mathematics.
