What
is Vermont Education News?
The Department of Education reviews online newspapers each week day and compiles
clips relevant to education in Vermont. We then create a Web page for each day's
clips with article titles and descriptions as well as information about the article's
source. The title of each article is set up as a direct link to the article's full
text, usually through a newspaper's Web site. Following each article description,
we provide a link to the source newspaper's homepage. Each link to an article or
newspaper Web site is set to open a new browser window. |
| |
|
| |
Where
do the clips come from?
The Department reviews
all Vermont newspapers that are available online. As of February 2001, these include
daily, twice-weekly, and weekly newspapers listed below.
Daily Vermont papers:
Burlington Free Press, Rutland Herald, Times Argus, Bennington Banner, Brattleboro
Reformer, St. Alban's Messenger, Caledonian-Record
Twice-weekly Vermont paper: Addison County Independent
Weekly Vermont papers: Stowe Reporter, Valley Reporter, Deerfield Valley News,
Journal Opinion, Herald of Randolph, Barton Chronicle
In addition to Vermont
papers, we search The New York Times and the Vermont regional section of the Boston
Globe.

|
| |
How
often are the pages updated?
The clips are updated each weekday. We post weekend clips with the clips for
the following Monday on a single page. Clips for holidays that do not fall on a Monday
are posted on the next available weekday. For example, if a holiday falls on a
Tuesday, clips for Tuesday and Wednesday will be posted on Wednesday. Unlike weekend
clips, however, clips posted later due to a holiday are posted on an individual page. |
| |
|
| |
How
long do the clips appear on the site?
We maintain clips on our site for one month. In most cases, direct article links,
except
for links to articles in the Burlington Free Press, Deerfield Valley News, Barton
Chronicle, Herald of Randolph and Journal Opinion,
will work for the entire month. If a link does not work, try linking directly to
the source newspaper's site and searching for the article there. |
| |
|
| |
Why
is an article from another date appearing in today's clips?
The date of a clips page (the posting date) usually reflects the date that stories
were compiled. In the case of a delay, such as for a weekend or holiday, it reflects
the date that most stories were posted by our sources. The date that appears with
an article reflects a newspaper's publication date. If the posting date and the article
date are different, it usually means that a story was not available to the Department
on its publication date. |

I
clicked on a link to an article, but it didn't work. What happened?
Sometimes, because of the way different newspapers' sites are designed, a link
we post on a Vermont Education News page doesn't work. We make every effort
to check the links we post, but sometimes a newspaper will change a link. If a direct
link to an article does not work, we recommend that you use the link to the source
paper at the end of the article's description and search for the article through
the newspaper's site. |
| |
|
| |
Why
are some article titles not links?
The Burlington Free Press, Deerfield Valley News, Barton Chronicle, Herald of
Randolph and Journal Opinion only maintain articles for one week on their sites.
We make every effort to remove direct links from these papers' articles weekly to
avoid confusion. Although you will still be able to view article summaries on the
Department of Education's site, you will need to contact the papers directly or check
with your local library for copies of older articles. |
| |
|
| |
I
saw an article in the paper, but it didn't show up in the clips. Why not?
I saw an article in the paper, but it didn't show up in the clips. Why not? Online
versions of newspapers do not necessarily reflect completely their hard copy counterparts.
Although we make every effort to find all relevant articles that appear online, we
do miss one occasionally. |

What
is the daily clips distribution and how do I subscribe?
Although you may access the daily news clips page through our Web site, the Department
also offers a daily distribution of the clips page via e-mail. If you subscribe,
you receive an e-mail each week day with a direct link to the day's clips page, and,
depending on your e-mail system, an attachment of the Web page itself from which
you can access article links.
To subscribe, send an e-mail message to doe-clipsinfo@state.vt.us. Please include the words "subscribe to clips" in the subject line of your message with your full
name, title, organization, and e-mail address in the message body. |
| |
|
| |
How
do I "unsubscribe" from the daily clips distribution list?
If at any time you would like to be removed from the daily distribution, please
send an e-mail message to doe-clipsinfo@state.vt.us. Please include the words "remove from clips" in the subject line of your message with your full
name, title, organization, and e-mail address in the message body. |
| |
|
| |
How
do I change my e-mail address on the clips distribution list?
If at any time you need to change the e-mail address at which you receive your
clips link, please send an e-mail message to doe-clipsinfo@state.vt.us. Please include the words "address change" in the subject line of your message and your full name,
e-mail address to remove and new e-mail address in the message body. |
