OTHER VERMONT EDUCATION ORGANIZATIONS

   
There are a number of education-oriented membership and non-membership organizations that support Vermont educators, in many cases at a specific content level. The links in this section take users off of the Vermont Department of Education Web site.
   
  The Learning Network of Vermont (LNV)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The LNV takes educational videoconferencing to the next level, using the public Internet to connect the videoconference rooms of Vermont high schools to each other and the world. Using a new and easy-to-use conference scheduling system, LNV members can include outside sites anywhere on the Internet in their LNV meetings. The uses of the LNV are defined by the member sites.
   
  National Writing Project in Vermont (NWP-VT)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
One of 197 affiliates of The National Writing Project (NWP), the NWP-VT offers professional development that serves primary through university educators in all subjects. The mission of the NWP and NWP-VT is to foster student achievement by improving the teaching of writing and learning. NWP-VT is housed at the University of Vermont and offers a four-week Invitational Summer Institute, online teacher research groups, onsite school inservice programs, workshops for administrators, day-long special programs open to all educators, and summer writing programs for young people.
   
  Vermont Alliance for Arts Education (VAAE)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont Alliance promotes the arts as essential to quality education for all Vermont students. VAAE is committed to: advocating for arts education programs for all students; sharing information, ideas, and resources among people dedicated to arts education; promoting innovative collaborations among artists, individuals, cultural and educational organizations and institutions; and recognizing notable achievements by individuals and organizations in arts education.
   
  Vermont Business Teachers' Association (VBTA)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The VBTA is a professional organization that provides its members with current information, professional growth opportunities and the channel through which to promote business education in Vermont.
   
  Vermont Center for the Book (VCB)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
Vermont Center for the Book provides professional development and family programs that feature book-centered strategies and resources to promote learning.
   
  Vermont Council on the Humanities (VCH)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont Council on the Humanities is dedicated to creating a state in which every individual reads, participates in public affairs, and continues to learn throughout life. The council's mission in Vermont is to achieve a fully literate society, to strengthen the humanities in the educational system and in the discussion of public issues, and to foster an appreciation of the richness and diversity of our cultural heritages.
   
  Vermont Council on Reading (VCR)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The VCR is a non-profit organization that promotes effective literacy programs at all levels and provides its members and the community with resources to increase their awareness of the current issues and practices in the field of reading.
   
  Vermont Foreign Language Association (VFLA)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont Foreign Language Association is an organization designed to promote more effective instruction and study of foreign language, encourage research and experimentation in the learning and teaching of these languages, and to provide for professional growth among its members.
   
  Vermont Higher Education Collaborative for Education Workforce Development (VT-HEC) Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.   
The VT-HEC was formed in 2000 as part of Act 117. It is the joint work of the Vermont Department of Education, the Vermont State Colleges and the University of Vermont. The VT-HEC, along with Vermont school districts and other education related organizations, are working together in new ways to make quality preparation, development and support programs accessible to educators and educators-to-be in all parts of Vermont.
   
Vermont Higher Education Council (VHEC)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont Higher Education Council's mission is to explore and implement new forms of cooperative activity that will strengthen higher education in Vermont. Major initiatives include supporting common efforts to attract students to Vermont colleges, working in partnership with the State Board of Education in the certification of out-of-state institutions seeking to offer degrees in Vermont, collecting and publishing Vermont higher education data, and promoting the significant role of higher education to state agencies and Vermont citizens.
   
  Vermont-National Education Association (VT-NEA)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont-National Education Association is a voluntary membership organization of 9,700 Vermont teachers and education support personnel. Educators in communities throughout Vermont are organized as local affiliates of VT-NEA. Educators also join subject area affiliates of VT-NEA, organizations dedicated to particular professional specialties.
   
Vermont Principals' Association (VPA)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont Principals' Association provides information and support to the state’s elementary, middle and high school principals. The VPA is deeply involved in interscholastic athletics, with committees focused on 16 different sports, plus sportsmanship and officiating.

The Vermont School Boards Association is a nonprofit, membership association for that helps Vermont’s school boards run effectively. To help improve education for all Vermont students, the VSBA supports a range of services, including sample policies, teacher salary and benefit information, and programs offering savings for schools.

 

 
Vermont State Mathematics Coalition (VSMC)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
The Vermont State Mathematics Coalition brings together members of the education and business communities, parents and students for the purpose of providing a statewide forum for addressing issues in mathematics and mathematics education from kindergarten through graduate education.
   
  Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC)Clicking this link will open a new browser window and take you off the department's Web site.
Vermont Student Assistance Corporation was created in 1965 as a public nonprofit agency to help Vermonters who want to go to college or other training after high school. VSAC provides grants, loans, scholarships, career and education planning, and general information about education planning. VSAC serves high school students planning for college, adults returning to college or changing careers, and adults wanting to learn new job skills.

The Vermont Superintendents Association is a professional organization committed to excellence in education and equity in educational opportunities. Membership includes superintendents and professional central office staff members including assistant superintendents, business managers, special education administrators and other educational
