OVERVIEW
| |
| |
Vermont has many schools that have learned how to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; nourish health and fitness awareness among students and staff; and promote environmental literacy. Sustainability education and the awareness of “green” careers is growing. Now those schools will have the chance to be nationally recognized. The Vermont Department of Education has joined the National Green Ribbon Schools Program, piloted in 2010 by the U.S. Department of Education. As a result, VT-AOE will work to identify outstanding green and healthy schools.

APPLICATION

| |
We will nominate VT schools for the US Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award. We will help schools showcase measurable accomplishments in the areas of reduced energy usage, ongoing sustainability and environmental education programs, and actions to improve the fitness and health of students and staff. |
