SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (SES)

| The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLBA) requires Title I schools that have not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for three or more years to offer additional services outside the regular school day for eligible students. These supplemental educational services are designed to increase the academic achievement of students in schools in the second year of improvement, in corrective action, or in restructuring. The services, such as tutoring, are in addition to instruction provided during the school day. Supplemental educational services must be consistent with the content and instruction used by the school and be aligned with Vermont’s Framework of Standards and the Grade Expectations (GEs). |

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Funding Workbook for FY2012 EXCEL
This document provides the following SES information for the 2011-2012 school year:
- Names of the schools required to offer SES,
- Supervisory unions’/school districts’ total Title I, Part A allocation,
- The 20% set aside figure for SES and Choice related transportation, and
- The per pupil amount which is the maximum amount the supervisory union/school district is required to spend for each child receiving SES.

Supplemental Educational Services Provider Application Packet for School Year 2011-2012 PDF
As part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLBA) of 2001, any Title I local education agency (LEA) that has a school in its second year of School Improvement, in Corrective Action, or in Restructuring shall arrange for the provision of supplemental educational services to eligible students whose parents request them from a provider with a demonstrated record of effectiveness or a high probability of success. |

List of Vermont's Approved Supplemental Educational Services Providers: School Year 2011-2012 PDF
The No Child Left Behind Act requires Title I schools that have not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for three or more years to offer additional services, such as tutoring outside the regular school day, to eligible students. This document lists the providers who have been approved by the Commissioner to deliver these services. Additional information available in the document identifies those providers who can provide services to Students with Disabilities and/or English Language Learners, information that describes the effectiveness of the provider’s program in increasing student performance as reported by the provider, what LEA’s in Vermont the provider will work with and location of those services, cost of services and grade levels served, contact information for each provider, and type of certification for each provider. The list is reviewed and updated annually. |

This January 14, 2009 guidance updates and expands upon the former supplemental educational services (SES) guidance released by U.S. Department of Education on June 13, 2005 and represents the current thinking on SES requirements. It is written in a question and answer format and includes a number of new and modified questions that address issues related to SES.
