STUDENT & LEADERSHIP RECOGNITION
 |
| |
|
| |
In keeping with its strategic plan, the State Board of Education annually recognizes leadership and student academic achievement.
- Student Recognition (2008)
The State Board of Education annually recognizes student academic achievement and leadership at the state level. The Board believes it is both appropriate and essential to encourage students to perform well on state and national assessments, to pursue scholarships and further their education, and to act as positive role models for their fellow Vermont students.
On April 8, 2008 at Mill River Union High School, North Clarendon, the State Board hosted its third student recognition ceremony during which students from around the state were honored for their academic and leadership excellence. Board member Jessica Bullock emceed the program; Board Chair Tom James, assisted by members Susan Schill and Kathy Larsen, presented framed certificates to the more than 30 students present. Use the link above to view a list of the 2008 recipients.
- Martha H. O’Connor Award (2008)
Through this award, the State Board of Education recognizes Martha H. O’Connor’s extraordinary contributions and dedication to Vermont’s school children throughout her leadership in public education. The award is presented annually to a private citizen who most closely follows the ideals embodied in Martha’s tenure with the State Board of Education.
The Board is currently seeking nominations for its annual Martha H. O’Connor Award. Use the link above to download the guidleines for submitting a nomination. The nominee should be someone from a community who is not currently paid by a school district but who is dedicated to Vermont’s school children. A school board member is eligible for nomination. The committee will be looking for individuals who have gone “above and beyond” their contribution and who have shown a true, unselfish commitment to students in their region and beyond. Nominations are due May 20, 2008. For more information, contact Carol King, State Board of Education Administrator, at (802) 828-5101 or carol.c.king@state.vt.us.
