NEW ENGLAND COMMON ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (NECAP):
PRACTICE TESTS & RESOURCE MATERIALS

Reading, mathematics and writing practice tests are available below for grades 3 through 8 and 11. These practice tests simulate one complete session of testing and include all the item types used on the NECAP tests. The resource materials provide specific information on each practice test item (e.g., item type, GLE assessed, total points and depth of knowledge). For 1, 2 and 4 point constructed response items, samples of student work at each score point level are included.

NOTE (Added 9/25/09): The NECAP Released Items and Practice Tests are made available to the public each year for a variety of uses, both private and commercial. However, the following restrictions apply:

1. Literary and informational passages used in reading and writing items are copyrighted and used on the NECAP tests through a contractual agreement with publishers. Individuals intending to use NECAP released items for commercial purposes are advised to obtain permission from publishers to use any copyrighted materials.
2. Any use of NECAP items should cite the New England Common Assessment Program as the source.

Recommendations for the Effective Use of Students’ NECAP Extended Writing Responses PDF
With the release of the 2010 NECAP assessment results, all Vermont students’ Extended Writing Responses were returned to their schools in a CD format. We believe that this information provides a tremendous opportunity for our teachers, students, and families to promote effective writing instruction, as well as increased student engagement in their own learning.
