Vermont's Comprehensive Assessment System (CAS) includes both state and local assessments. The curriculum and assessment program supports the development and implementation of state assessments. It also supports professional development networks and other opportunities that focus on the coordination of curriculum, instruction and assessment (both state and local) with the Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities and the Grade Expectations. The agency's Standards and Assessment Team provides the resources, technical assistance and professional development that support this program. |

Ready, Set, Go!--Discovering Your Path to College and Career Readiness Video Contest
The new global economy offers great opportunities for those students who have the knowledge and skills to take advantage of it. To ensure that all students have the 21st century skills necessary to be successful in college and in the workplace, Vermont and forty-two other states and territories are developing new educational standards that will help prepare students to compete in a rapidly changing world.
This fall, the Vermont Agency of Education is announcing a video contest, “Ready, Set, Go!--Discovering Your Path to College and Career Readiness,” for students in grades 7 through 12. This is a wonderful opportunity for students, individually or in teams, to share their thoughts about the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in college and careers in the 21st Century. More details coming soon, so stay tuned! |

SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium Frequently Asked Questions PDF
Vermont is a governing state for the SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium, along with over 30 other states. SMARTER Balanced is using a collaborative model to develop a comprehensive assessment system ready for implementation in 2015 and designed to measure student performance on the Common Core State Standards. The agency has created a SMARTER Balanced Frequently Asked Questions document, to provide answers to questions we have heard over the past few months. |

Common Core State Standards Implementation Plan and Information PDF
This document provides an informational presentation that communicates current understanding of the Common Core and outlines first steps and considerations in implementing the Common Core in Vermont. In addition to the presentation, this document also includes a transition timeline, and an implementation plan that has been used to orient the Common Core Policy Group, the Common Core Implementation Committee, and the Vermont Professional Learning Network (VPDN) leaders to their roles in the implementation plan. |

Common Core Standards for Mathematics & English Language Arts FAQ PDF
The agency has been receiving many questions about the newly finalized Common Core State Standards (CC). These questions have been compiled into a FAQ document with the information that is known at this time. This update provides a new timeline for the adoption of the Common Core State Standards and additional information about the impact of the CC on curriculum and our current assessments. Additions are highlighted in "purple".
