OVERVIEW
 |
| |
|
| |
Vermont Statutes define gifted and talented as “children …who, when compared to others of their age, experience or environment, exhibit capability of high performance in intellectual, creative or artistic areas, possess an unusual capacity for leadership or excel in specific academic fields.” Education for the gifted and talented differs from other content areas in that there are no state standards or grade level expectations. The Department of Education demonstrates support for this area by including an enrichment coordinator as part of the Standards and Assessment Team.

Creating Responsive Schools Project (CRS)
Participants in this collaborative initiative in school renewal are committed to implementing differentiated instruction as the philosophy for teaching and learning and as an avenue for increasing achievement for all students in Vermont. The project promotes collaboration and shared decision-making with teachers, supports a culture of inquiry in which the focus shifts from teaching to learning, and builds leadership capacity within each school. CRS aims to build schools that are student-centered and inclusive, with teachers who differentiate their instruction, ensure high-quality curriculum for all students, use a variety of appropriate assessments, and create a supportive, nurturing community. For further information, please contact Noel Bryant (contact information below) or visit the CRS link on the Access Center Web site at http://www.k8accesscenter.org/accessinaction/VermontCRS.asp. |
