Core Principles of High Quality Local Assessment Systems
This resource is designed to give schools a starting place or a progress check in developing their plan for a local comprehensive assessment system. The core principles complement the guidance memorandum and address five key areas of local assessment: Assessment in Relation to School Culture, Shared Expectations for Student Learning, The Role of Formative Assessment in the Local Comprehensive Assessment System, The Balance of Classroom-based and School-based Assessment, and Systemic Supports for Local Assessment. Each area includes a short background section that provides current research on best practice followed by focus questions for local assessment plan development. |

Self-Assessment Planning Guide for High-Quality Local Assessment Systems (Added 8/7/07)
As a companion document to the Core Principles of High-Quality Local Assessment Systems, this guide serves as a tool to support schools in self-assessing their current progress along a continuum of implementation with respect to core principles guidance. It also is designed to help schools in determining their next steps in moving forward with a local assessment system. Together, the two documents begin to help schools answer three key assessment questions: Where do we want to go? Where are we now? How do we get there? NOTE: This document is designed to be printed on legal size paper.
