Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) Grant Program
The goals of the MSP are: 1) to increase the academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of classroom teachers; and 2) to build statewide capacity for professional development of K-12 staff by establishing networks of highly skilled teacher leaders in mathematics and science. Funds from the MSP are currently being used to support high quality professional development programs in Vermont:
- The Vermont Science Initiative (VSI)
The VSI provides professional training for licensed Vermont science teachers to enhance their science content understanding and the use of effective instructional and assessment strategies in science classrooms.
- VSI Tier 1 Program
The VSI Tier 1 Program is a three-year professional education degree program for licensed teachers of grades K-8 designed to build a cohort of skilled teachers of science who will serve as teacher-leaders in delivering professional development to colleagues within their schools and districts.
- VSI Tier 2 Program
The VSI Tier 2 Program is a one-year (6 credit) course for all science teachers focusing on mastery of science content knowledge and classroom instructional skills through interaction with experts in the field.
For additional information about these two programs, contact Professor Elizabeth Dolci, Department of Environmental & Health Services, Johnson State College, Johnson, VT 05656 or dolcie@jsc.vsc.edu.

The Vermont-PASS Assessment Blueprint (2001)
This document was developed to help educators understand the Vermont-Partnership for the Assessment of Standards-based Science (Vermont-PASS) assessment and to maximize its use in making local science curriculum, instruction, and professional development decisions. The Blueprint guides teachers as they reflect on science content, assessment and practice. The Blueprint also guides action-planning committees as they use the assessment data to inform their decisions.
NOTE: The link to the Blueprint (above) is the same for grades 5, 9 and 11. The appendix containing the practice test for grades 5, 9 or 11 must be downloaded separately from the list below:
