2005 Comprehensive Plan for Early Literacy Success
In order to achieve the goal that all children learn to read by the end of third grade, a comprehensive system of services must include not only the first three grades of school but also those preceding years, from birth through kindergarten. This Plan serves as a map for action, an outline of feasible and essential steps and a tool for monitoring steps and strategies undertaken.

Early Education Initiative 2006-07 Year End Report
This report presents results of Vermont's prekindergarten program targeting preschoolers who are at-risk of school failure. This effective program shows developmental gains made by children attending high quality programs although fewer children were served this year despite high need. |

Report on Vermont’s “School Readiness Assessment Initiative”: 2007-2008 (Added 4/8/08)
This report shares the results from the seventh year of a multi-part assessment of “school readiness,” conducted throughout Vermont in the 2007-08 school year. The assessment gathered information from kindergarten teachers on children’s readiness in the fall of 2007. Information from teachers and school principals on their schools’ readiness for young children and their families is also included. |

This document provides state and local contact information about early childhood resources in your area. Contact information is provided for local school district Essential Early Education (EEE) and Early Education Initiative (EEI) programs, Family Infant Toddler Programs (FITP), Head Start, parent/child centers, family support services, medical and health services, Children’s Upstream Services, and Even Start. Guiding the Development and Learning of Children Entering Kindergarten
This document is a companion guide to the Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities that specifically addresses preschool education. It identifies eight domains (Approaches to Learning; Social & Emotional Development; Language, Literacy & Communication; Mathematics: Science; Social Studies; Creative Expression; and Physical Health & Development) which can be used to guide curriculum and assessment for programs serving three- and four-year olds. VELS is applicable across a variety of settings, including public preschool programs, Head Start, child care, and home settings.

Vermont Head Start Association and Vermont Head Start/Early Head Start Programs
Head Start and Early Head Start are national child and family development programs which provide comprehensive services for low income families and their children. Head Start serves children ages three to five and their families, and Early Head Start serves pregnant women and children from birth to age three and their families. Head Start preschool programs help children to prepare for kindergarten, and assist parents in accessing medical and dental services for their children. Head Start also provides services for children with special needs, and assists families in accessing social services and community resources. For more information, contact K.C. Vermont Northern Lights Career Development Center for Early Childhood and Afterschool Professionals Resources
This organization
is funded by a grant from the Child Development Division of the Vermont Agency of Human Services. In collaboration with the Community College of Vermont (CCV) and the Vermont Child Care Industry and Careers Council (VCCICC), Vermont Northern Lights helps unify the current professional development system in our state through various strategies. Although it is not located in a specific place, its resources are available statewide.
