White Paper: What Broadband Connectivity Means to Vermont K-12 Schools  PDF
This white paper, released in spring 2011, sought to solidify support for efforts to supply robust high speed broadband to K-12 schools. Progress is being made across Vermont and robust broadband access is becoming a reality for many schools. For more information on broadband across Vermont, please visit the Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA) website.

Transformation and Technology: A New Way of Learning (Classroom Scenarios) OSL
These classroom scenarios were created in the fall of 2009 by a group of educators coordinated through a Title II grant. Divided into sections based on grade clusters and NETS-S 2007 standards (National Education Technology Standards) for technology and learning, they provide example "scenarios" of what one might see in classroom as each of the standard areas are addresses. Scenarios include the use of Web 2.0 tools, best practice teaching methods and innovative uses of technology in all grade level classrooms. School leaders should use this resources to gain knowledge on what is possible, teachers should use this resource to help design meaningful lesson practices that integrate technology. NOTE: The scenarios may also be downloaded in PDF format using the following link:

Information Technology Grade Expectations (2010) OSL
Use this link to view the recently completed update to the Technology Grade Expectations. A grade expectation (GE) is a stated objective that relates directly to a Vermont standard and associated evidences. A GE differentiates performance on content knowledge or skills between adjacent grade levels and describe clearly what students will do to show that they understand a designated concept. As a set, GEs should lead to focused, coherent, and developmentally appropriate instruction without narrowing the curriculum and can be used for local curriculum and assessment development.

  Educational Technology Performance Tasks     PDF
Designed to support the Technology Grade Expectations (GEs), these content-neutral tasks can support classroom level determination of students’ knowledge and skills related to the GEs. The original performance tasks, created by a group of teachers in the northwestern part of Vermont through support from VITA-Learn, were the foundation for the Technology Grade Expectations. These revised tasks were supplemented with “model” tasks geared toward numerous grade levels and content areas in summer 2005. NOTE: This file is 2.7MB.

Riverdeep Learning Village Training & Support Materials
Riverdeep Learning Village is an online environment that provides educators with access to tools for the creation and dissemination of instructional materials and assessments that connect to state standards. The Vermont Department of Education is transitioning from Riverdeep Learning Village to a Vermont Education Exchange which uses a site content tool from Intrafinity. It is anticipated that the transition will be complete in May 2011. While this transition occurs, Riverdeep Learning Village will still remain active and available to facilitate online collaboration and sharing of instructional resources. The link above leads to resources and training materials for using Riverdeep Learning Village.
