Programs & Services : Migrant Education

The University of Vermont Extension Migrant Education Program - The Vermont Migrant Education Identification and Recruitment Program works in partnership with the Vermont Department of Education and is charged with finding and enrolling every migratory child and youth in the state who is under the age of 22 and who has moved with a family member, a guardian or independently on their own in order to seek or obtain temporary or seasonal work in qualifying agricultural or logging activities. All staffs are bilingual and the program serves as a bridge connecting farm workers to various educational, community and health services. Eligible farm workers or children of farm workers may receive educational resources.

Farming Across Cultures Communication Project (FACCP) - The Farming Across Cultures Communication Project began in May of 2010 with an overall objective of increased communication, understanding, and training on farms with Latino employees. The FACCP works with producers, managers, and Latino employees in the areas of work, health and the home. This website provides educational tools, resources, and links for farm owners and managers as well as their Latino employees.

Office of Migrant Education at the US Department of Education - The mission of the Office of Migrant Education (OME) is to provide excellent leadership, technical assistance, and financial support to improve the educational opportunities and academic success of migrant children, youth, agricultural workers, fishers, and their families. The OME administers grant programs that provide academic and supportive services to the children of families who migrate to find work in the agricultural and fishing industries.

CAMP! - Camp Exclamation Point, Inc. (CAMP!) is a Vermont-based non-profit organization that gives over 100 children from rural Vermont communities a week of residential summer camp. These children come from homes with limited financial resources. Many of our campers' families are involved with the agriculture, dairy, or logging industries within the state and often move to follow seasonal work. In addition to a traditional summer camp program, we also offer older campers a teen leadership training program. Many of Vermont’s migrant education students attend CAMP!

ESCORT is a national resource center dedicated to improving educational opportunities for ALL students, with expertise in serving highly mobile and at-risk populations. Specifically: children of migrant farmworkers; English learners; homeless students; and struggling readers. Located at the State University College of New York at Oneonta since 1986, ESCORT provides client-focused professional development and customized technical assistance to federal, state, and local education agency clients across the nation. Cornell Farm Workers Program - Cornell Farm Worker Program – Cornell Farm Worker Program researchers inform scholars, students, community members, policy makers, and the media about the nature and concerns of New York farmworkers through public meetings and other information avenues.

SOSY - Solutions for Out-of-School Youth (SOSY) Consortium Incentive seeks to build capacity in states with a growing secondary-aged migrant out-of-school (OSY) youth population. SOSY goals include: identifying and recruiting all out-of-school youth within the states, including recovery and here-to-work youth; designing a well formulated process for accessing the different needs of the two groups; developing appropriate service delivery models for those youth who want to continue their education and for those who are here-to-work; sharing information and resources among the member States; identifying and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and providing professional development to support OSY activities.

LEARN 2 Succeed - The focus of this consortium is to create the Migrant Reading Network website is to provide teachers with tools for quickly assessing and providing supplemental research-based literacy lessons to students in grades K-12 to improve their foundational literacy skills. Educators can use this site to quickly identify individual student literacy needs using Student Success Plans, enter students' missing skills into the website criteria, and access instructional lessons designed to improve specific literacy skills.
