The agency evaluates
applications to offer courses and degrees for postsecondary credit. With assistance
from the Vermont Higher Education Council, this program makes recommendations to
the State Board of Education for course and program certification, as provided by
16 V.S.A. § 175, § 176, and § 177. Institutions offering programs entirely on-line, with no physical presence within our state, do not need State Board approval.
Effective 7/1/2011, any out-of-state school must be both approved in its home state and accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US Dept. of Education before applying for approval to operate in Vermont.
