POLICIES
 |
| |
|
| |
For programs to be
sustainable, they must be supported by policies and procedures that insure consistency
of implementation over time and by different administrations. The policies and procedures
offered here can serve as examples for other schools and communities to consider.
It is not recommended that the following examples be adopted verbatim. Each school
and community should consider the need to be addressed and develop guidelines that
are specific to the situation and adhere to existing organizational policies.
Attendance (Truancy)
Policies
The following policy examples provide for a graduated response to an unexcused attendance.

Partnership Articulation
Agreements
Partnership articulation
agreements can provide academic options for students.
- Lamoille Union High School and Vermont
Basic Education

Lamoille Union
High School has a unique agreement with Vermont Adult Basic Education where students
may apply to complete their high school graduation requirements through the pre-GED,
community service and a personal essay. Students who complete all these requirements
receive a high school diploma.

Discipline Procedures
Integrating restorative justice practices into school discipline, including service
to community or school as a reparative activity, holds the student accountable for
the action while rebuilding relationship between the student, the individuals wronged
by the action and the school and community at large.
- Mt. Anthony Union High School (Bennington)
Mt. Anthony Union High School has integrated substance abuse education and community
service into their disciplinary response to alcohol related offenses.
