This document is part of a series of "What Works" booklets produced by the Vermont Agency of Human Services to assist the work of its regional and local partners in achieving positive outcomes for Vermont's citizens. This booklet presents some of the approaches shown to be effective in preventing and intervening with the truancy and school dropout. (April 2002)

High Schools on the Move: Renewing Vermont's Commitment to Quality Secondary Education
Truancy and dropout prevention strategies are parallel with the principles of high school reform. The 12 principles articulated in this publication provide a powerful framework that, if implemented, would result in more students achieving academic success and graduating from high school. This document presents a vision for high school renewal and innovation in the state. It serves as a call to action and a toolkit to help educators and communities chart their own courses for secondary school change.
