VETERANS EDUCATION SERVICES

As of September 2006, veterans education services are being performed by the Office of Veterans Affairs. Veterans who have earned entitlements to educational benefits through military service may receive monthly education benefits while attending “approved” postsecondary education and training programs, apprenticeships and OJT programs. Other eligible persons such as dependents of disabled or deceased veterans may be entitled to receive educational benefits while attending “approved” programs including high school programs.

Working through contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs, organizations known as State Approving Agencies (SAAs) identify those programs that meet federal requirements for approval. Veterans and eligible persons who are entitled to receive GI Bill educational benefits may seek information from the following state agency:

High School Diplomas for Vermont World War II, Korean War & Vietnam War Era Veterans
Passed during the 2001-2002 legislative session, Act 118 enables school boards to award high school diplomas to eligible Vermont residents who engaged in military service during World War II and the Korean War. Act 23 of the 2007-2008 legislative session amended 16 VSA 563(25) to add Vietnam War Era Veterans to the groups of veterans who are (upon proof of the necessary elements) eligible to receive high school diplomas.
