Recommendations and Considerations
The below health recommendations are issued jointly by the AOE and the Health Department for topic-, program-, or activity-specific questions or needs. Additional recommendations will be added as the situation warrants.
The Agency of Education and Department of Health Recommend that SU/SDs and independent schools follow CDC guidance for food service and school meals, including the following:
- Mask wear during food prep and service.
- Frequent cleaning of food prep and service areas, and frequent hand washing by students and food service staff.
Additionally, the Vt. Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that schools pay special attention to distancing when students are eating in groups unmasked. Accordingly, schools may want to consider continuing use of cohorting for meal times or eating in classrooms to help ensure distancing and smaller group size, as long as this does not impinge on instructional time.
