Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day, and Vermont celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week all this week! 2025 Vermont Teacher of the Year, Caitlin Macleod-Bluver, invited the AOE into her classroom to talk about the critical work that teachers do every day and how important it is to recognize and celebrate that work. According to the Burlington Free Press, local businesses are helping to celebrate teachers this week with a variety of discounts and other offers just for teachers.
Teacher Appreciation Week can trace its roots back to 1953, when former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, suggested that Congress establish National Teacher Day on the Tuesday in the first full week of May. In 1984, the national PTA expanded it to the whole week.
