Vermont Public: NOVA Science Studio

Audience: High School Teachers, Curriculum Directors
Vermont Public and NOVA introduce the new PBS LearningMedia collection NOVA Science Studio, which is designed to provide students with the skills and tools to tell their own stories about science issues happening in their communities. The curriculum, developed by the NOVA staff, focuses on science journalism and video production. It provides support for engaging in discussions and activities as well as editorial guidance for students as they develop stories for their videos, conduct research, and shoot and edit their videos. The curriculum is designed to be completed over 7 to 8 months in sessions at least twice a week.

Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies Annual Conference

Audience: Principals, CTE Administrators, Curriculum Directors, K-12 Educators, Librarians
The 29th Annual Social Studies Conference will be held on December 7, 2023 in Burlington. Two keynote speakers, Andrew Garber, counsel within the Brennan Center’s Voting Rights and Elections Program, and Gretchen Skidmore, Director of Education Initiatives at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, will support rich K-12 sessions led by local educators, as well as state and national social studies-focused leaders. Topics will include Holocaust education, humanities extracurriculars, Vermont-centered education, instructional methods, and war-time history. Vermont Foreign Language Association Has a New Name: VOCALE

Audience: Superintendents, Principals, Business Managers, Curriculum Directors, World Language Educators
The Vermont Foreign Language Association (VFLA) has merged with the Vermont Classical Language Association (VCLA) at the request of the VCLA. In order to embrace all languages, the chosen name is VOCALE, the Vermont Organization of Classical and Language Educators. The AOE will continue to collaborate with VOCALE and will update both our website and the Seal of Biliteracy to reflect the change. Business managers are advised to use the updated name in purchase orders and other documentation.

Consolidated Federal Programs, Committee of Practitioners  

Audience: All
The CFP Committee of Practitioners will hold its first meeting of the 2023-24 school year on December 13. We are currently seeking representatives from the following groups: Homeless Liaison, Independent Schools, School Board, and Parents.
