Smarter Balanced Data for Publically Funded Students

May 3, 2017

This memo is to address a request I have received to provide Superintendents with access to Smarter Balanced student scores for students that are the responsibility of their Supervisory Union/District but are attending an independent school.

To meet this request, the Assessment Team has worked with our contractor to create a way for a student to be connected to the school where they take the assessment (including CTE centers) and to their sending school or union/district. Because the process requires the independent school to link their students to your school/union/district, we encourage you to reach out to the Headmaster to ensure that your students are double tagged. This may be directly covered under your contractual agreements with independent schools to share specific data with you. Directions for how independent schools can link students are attached.

If this is done, the Supervisory Union/District will be able to see the results of these students in the Smarter Balanced portal. Please remember that when you have access to data through your portal you see the results of all students; however, you may not publically share data if the group you are sharing is smaller than 11 students in order to protect student privacy.
