AOE Seeks Qualified Individuals for Short Duration Activities
Audience: All
The Agency of Education is seeking qualified individuals for short duration activities to be held throughout the year. The activities will consist of Peer and Transcript Review Panels, ROPA Teams, Student Assessment Scoring, Site Monitoring Teams, Committee of Practitioners, Conference Presentations, and ad hoc Committees, Groups and Panels. Registration Open for the Kindergarten Conference for Early Educators
Audience: Administrators, PreK and Kindergarten Teachers
This year’s theme is “Tapping the Joy of Learning for Each and Every Child. . . The Sweetness of Success!” The Kindergarten Conference and the Pyramid Model Consortium have joined forces to create an engaging conference for early educators focused on equity, joyful learning, and success for all. Rosemarie Allen, who has worked to ensure children have access to high quality early childhood programs that are developmentally and culturally appropriate, will be the keynote speaker. The conference will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Hilton in Burlington, Vermont. For additional information about workshops, please go to the Kindergarten Conference registration site.

Pyramid Model Training of Trainers: Modules 1-3 with Johanna Wasser
Audience: Individuals who have current or recent experience in the early childhood field-training adults and knowledge of adult learning principles, coaching/mentoring, providing technical assistance and/or supervision
Pyramid Model Practices support young children’s social and emotional skills and competence The Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children to help early educators build skills for supporting nurturing and responsive caregiving, create learning environments, provide targeted social-emotional skills, and support children with challenging behavior. School Survey on Crime and Safety
Audience: Superintendents, Principals
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) of the U.S. Department of Education is conducting a national study that collects information about crime and safety in public schools from school principals. The School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS) was previously conducted in the 1999-2000, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2007-08, 2009-10, and 2015-16 school years. At least one school in Vermont has been selected to participate in the survey. The AOE encourages principals selected to participate in the survey.

U.S. Department of Education Webinars
Audience: LEAs
The U.S. Department of Education will host two webinars regarding a new pilot to afford local educational agencies (LEAs) flexibility to create equitable, student-centered funding systems Wednesday, February 21 from 2-3:30 p.m., and Thursday, February 22 from 12:30-2 p.m. The intended audience is LEAs, though other interested parties are also welcome. The webinars will include identical information, and the Department will take questions using the chat feature. To join a webinar, please select the link for the relevant session. Pre-registration is not required. The webinars will be recorded, and the recordings – as well as the slides – will be posted on the department's website.

Vermont/New Hampshire Career Development Association Workshop
The Vermont/New Hampshire Career Development Association will host its first, all-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 13, 2018 at in the Madison Room at Keene State College. This is the first workshop since the association's inception in June 2016. Innovation in Education Conference
The Windsor Central Supervisory Union invites you to attend an Innovation in Education Conference at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, VT on April 5-6, 2018. This event is part of our district’s work to study innovative education practices in response to the changing demands our students will face in regards to both career and college. We have collected a group of national presenters to enable educators to take a deep dive into some of the promising instructional approaches that are available to help foster the critical skills our students will need to address rapidly changing work and higher education environments. Conference highlights include keynote speaker Scott McLeod (addressing education's relevance gap), an introduction to NuVu Studios (an architectural design studio for middle/high school students), and a two day project-based learning strand with Angie Guerrero (a teacher from High Tech High, who has presented internationally on the school’s approach and instructional strategies). Coder Camp for Girls
Girls ages 11-17 can join this fun, experiential hands-on day camp at Vermont Technical College, Williston Campus, offering them the chance to translate their creativity into a computer program using SCRATCH and other software programs plus visit innovative software development companies. C-3 Inquiry-Based Practice in Social Studies Education
Last call for this two-day hands-on workshop designed to familiarize Vermont educators with the C3 Framework through a curriculum design process called the Inquiry Design Model (IDM). National presenter and C3 Lead Writer, Kathy Swan, will guide participants through the 10-step design path so that they walk away with a solid understanding of social studies inquiry and how inquiry unfolds in the classroom. The book, "The Inquiry Design Model: Building Inquiries in Social Studies," is included. The training will be held at Trader Dukes Hotel, formerly the DoubleTree in South Burlington. Flynn Center Interdisciplinary Workshop
This Interdisciplinary Workshop is with Lida Winfield from 4-5:30 p.m. on February 24, 2018. Participants will focus on using their bodies, voices, drawings and stories to explore the imagination. In this playful, accessible, and poignant workshop you explore your imagination and perceptions, as well as learn about how Lida Winfield and her collaborators made their new dance/theater performance "IMAGINARY" at the FlynnSpace on February 23-24, 2018. Integrating Technology and Writing Across the K-3 Curriculum
Young students have great ideas about the world around them. Their understandings often surpass their physical and verbal abilities to express them. Educators can leverage a variety of tools to support students in expressing their big ideas about science, social studies, and literacy. VT-HEC is excited to offer: It Came from Outer Space: Integrating Technology and Writing Across the K-3 Curriculum where participants will look at several ways that apps and instruction can be used to foster the creation of original student work and the sharing of their wonderful ideas.
