ALiS Online Licensing System: Educator Employment Update

All educators holding Vermont licensure are required to update their employment information in their online accounts. Professional Learning: Understanding the NGSS Through a Proficiency-based Lens

Audience: Teachers, Teacher Leaders and Administrators
Registration is open for Understanding the NGSS Through a Proficiency-based Lens on August 17, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Practice unpacking the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), build proficiency scales and begin or continue building a coherent K-12, 7-12 and/or 9-12 science curriculum. Learn about the strategies and tools that will help you implement the NGSS in your school and district. This workshop will be used as a springboard into future professional learning surrounding performance assessments, curriculum alignment, and building three-dimensional lessons.

Funding Opportunity for Diesel Fleet Upgrades

Audience: Facility and Transportation Directors, Maintenance Directors, Superintendents, Business Managers, School Board Chairs
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is offering incentives to accelerate the replacement or retrofit of older school buses, tractors and other diesel vehicles/equipment. Funds available through the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) allow for reimbursement of up to 25 percent of the costs for early replacement of diesel vehicles and equipment, up to 100 percent of the costs to retrofit diesel vehicles with exhaust controls, or up to 25 percent of the costs for retrofitting diesel vehicles with idle reduction technologies. These funds are available even if your district contracts out transportation services. The objective of the program is to help reduce diesel emissions and children's exposure to diesel exhaust. Professional Learning Opportunity: Lake Champlain Natural History

Registration is open for Special Topics in Lake Champlain Natural History, a field science immersion in the natural history and ecology of Lake Champlain, its watershed, and other similar freshwater ecosystems. The course runs August 6-10, 2018 at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, and is presented in a modular fashion, i.e., each day is stand-alone if so desired. The suite of modules is as follows: Day 1: Geology - the fossil record and the scale of time; Day 2: Phytoplankton - primary production and diatoms; Day 3: Zooplankton - population dynamics and diel migration; Day 4: Freshwater mussels - vulnerable life histories and endangered species; Day 5: Identifying and understanding Lake Champlain fish.

Professional Learning: Ideas for Student-Centered Classrooms

Registration is open Getting Ready for Liftoff: Great Ideas for Launching the Student-Centered Classroom, August 7, 2018, at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier. This workshop is for practical-minded educators (teachers and administrators) ready to rethink how they greet and get to know their learners throughout the start of the year. Participants will be guided through a process of designing compelling and meaningful experiences to engage their learners through the first weeks of the school year. The mission? To leave ready and excited to lift off the new school year, with all our learners on board. This workshop kicks off an exciting series that will continue throughout the school year, focusing on strategies for sustaining the student-centered classroom.
