Vermont AOE is requesting a waiver of the specific Bachelor’s degree requirements for the State Director of Child Nutrition Programs as outlined in 7 CFR Parts 210 and 235 and in the Final Rule published in the Federal Register, 80 FR 11077, on March 2, 2015. These requirements are listed as an academic major in areas including food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.
Alternately, Vermont AOE is proposing to match the requirements for the Bachelor’s degree for a State Director of Child Nutrition with the current State of Vermont minimum qualifications for an Education Program Manager - Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years or more of experience at or above a professional level in the broad field of education or human services, including one (1) year or more with planning, policy, program administration or a program evaluation role and two (2) years or more of supervisory experience. In addition to this minimum qualification, Vermont AOE would give candidates who have the following professional standards requirements, additional weight in the hiring process:
- Knowledge & Experience: Extensive relevant knowledge and experience in areas such as institutional food service operations, management, business, and/or nutrition education.
- Skills & Abilities: Additional abilities and skills needed to lead, manage, and supervise people to support the mission of school nutrition programs.
