Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Training
Audience: Anyone is welcome. It is recommended that participants attend in teams.
This full-day workshop or half-day refresher on March 14, 2019 provides training in a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help human service workers provide for the best possible care, welfare and safety of children who become out-of-control or physically aggressive. Completion of the 8-hour training leads to CPI certification. If you have already completed CPI training within the last 12 months, there is a 3-hour CPI refresher to review CPI principles and strategies as well as opportunities for practice and problem-solving. Completion of this training will result in re-certification. Registration forms are due ten days before the scheduled training you plan to attend. Space is limited and participants will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

Creating an Adoption-Sensitive School: Free Training from the Vermont Consortium for Adoption and Guardianship
Audience: Vermont Educators, Guidance Counselors, Principals, Superintendents, and all other school staff
This training from the Vermont Consortium for Adoption and Guardianship is designed to increase children’s ability to access learning when, due to early trauma and/or normative adoption/guardianship developmental issues, they experience school as unsafe or have triggering experiences. School staff will increase their understanding of the seven core issues of adoption, increase their understanding of the impact of developmental trauma, and learn how these might present in the classroom and what strategies can help these children and youth succeed in school. Applications Now Open: Advanced Coder Camp
Applications for the Advanced Coder Camp (days) July 22 to 26, 2019 at Vermont Technical College, Williston Campus for rising 7th–11th graders are now open. The camp provides an opportunity for students with some programming background to dive deeper into programming. Campers will learn to develop simple Android applications using Java and xml. Smartphone apps, robots, video games and small business - the world runs on code. Whether you dream of becoming a Google developer or want to launch your own mobile game start up, your coding path continues here. $175 (includes workbook, activities, instruction, some lunches, snacks, field trip and more) Many partial fee scholarships available.

Summer Institute: Ambitious Instruction for Energy and Climate Action
The Vermont Energy Education Program is offering a five-day Summer Institute for K-12 science teachers, August 12 to 16, 2019, at Lake Morey Resort, Fairlee, VT. The institute, Ambitious Instruction for Energy and Climate Action, is a week-long dive for K-12 teachers into hands-on investigations, best instructional practices and student-driven action. Tuition includes lodging and meals, with optional graduate credits; scholarships available.

Professional Development: Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Course & Practicum
Registration is open for the Stern Center for Language and Learning’s Orton-Gillingham Associate Level course & practicum. The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach is the underlying foundation of all multisensory structured language instruction. Participants will learn both the structure of the English language and how to teach it sequentially and systemically to struggling readers. Teachers may choose to further their OG training with a 100-hour practicum, which is required for OG Associate Level certification. Registration due by July 1, 2019. Grant funding towards tuition is available.

Applications Now Open: Computer Camp
Applications for a new Computer Camp days July 29 to Aug 2, 2019 are now open. The camp will be held by Vermont Technical College on the CCV Upper Valley Campus in White River Junction for rising 7th – 10th graders. Campers will have a chance to explore/experience a wide variety of topics in computer programming, website development, networking, cybersecurity and related fields working with Vermont Tech faculty. They’ll also have an opportunity to meet with industry professionals who will share their experience on why careers in computing can be so rewarding. Learning, physical activity, and fun will be in abundance. The week will culminate with campers presenting their work to families and friends. $175 (includes all activities, instruction, some lunches, snacks, field trip and more) Many partial fee scholarships available.

K12 Arts for Equity Educator Institute
Clemmons Family Farm, the Flynn Center and Vermont Abenaki Artists Association are pleased to announce this year's K12 Arts for Equity Educator Institute from August 12 to 16, 2019 at Clemmons Family Farm. Teams of educators engage with nationally recognized leaders and Vermont's artists and cultural bearers of the African diaspora and Abenaki communities in culturally inclusive curricula and arts integration. Highlights include live performances by guest artists, place-based inquiry and learning and culturally responsive curriculum design sessions guided by national experts and local artists. Registration and financial aid applications will be available mid-March, 2019.
