MTSS Data Collection and Survey

The MTSS Survey annually provides the Agency of Education with the data to fulfill the following two data collections. This survey becomes available in mid-May each year, with a due date of June 1st. 

Act 44 of 2009 amended 16 V.S.A. § 2902, directs that within each school district’s comprehensive system of educational services, each public school shall develop and maintain a tiered system of academic and behavioral supports through the use of educational support teams for the purpose of providing all students with the opportunity to succeed or to be challenged in the general education environment.

Act 117 - VSA Title 16, Section 2904, requires that each superintendent shall annually provide to the Vermont Secretary of Education a status of the educational support systems in each school in the supervisory union; how it is funded and how building the capacity of the educational support system is addressed in the School's Continuous Improvement Plan. Included in the report will be a description and justification of how funds received due to Medicaid reimbursement under section 2959a of are used.

Educator Census

Data collected to determine which core academic subject classes are taught by teachers who are highly qualified for their assignment in accordance with Title II of NCLB.

Announced Tuition

Announced tuition is the maximum tuition a district can charge districts sending tuitioned students. Vermont law requires that any increases over a previous year's announced tuition rate must be reported to sending districts and to the Agency of Education by January 15th each year.

Spring Census and SECT

The Spring Census is an updated list of Vermont public school students with attendance and absence information. The Agency of Education is also required to collect data regarding student courses in such a way to allow the linkage of students with teachers and to provide the state with student transcript information. The Student Educator Course Transcript (SECT) is the mechanism for collecting such data, including courses taken, credits earned and so on.​
