Nominations are officially open for the 2026 Vermont Teacher of the Year!
Audience: Vermont Educators, Administrators, Parents, Students
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Vermont Teacher of the Year. Anyone can nominate a teacher for this recognition and any active teacher in Vermont can be nominated. Teachers who are nominated for Vermont Teacher of the Year will have the option to complete their applications for the recognition with the Agency of Education. Vermont’s Teacher of the Year will be eligible for selection as the National Teacher of the Year.
Nominations are open through Monday, April 28. Once nominated, teachers will be able to submit their applications to the AOE in May.

Rutland Region Farm to School Gathering
Audience: Teachers, Farm to School Coordinators, School Nutrition Staff, School Administrators, Farmers, Families, and Supporting Organizations
The Vermont Farm to School & Early Childhood Network is hosting an upcoming Rutland Region Farm to School Gathering, on May 1, from 4-6 p.m. at Rutland City Schools - Allen Street Campus. Join to connect, celebrate, and elevate what is happening in Farm to School around the greater Rutland region. Find support for your efforts and access resources; build connections with fellow farm to school practitioners, learn from showcased successes and best practices, and help strengthen our local networks. Vermont Multi-tiered Systems of Support Survey Opens May 1
Audience: School Principals
The annual Vermont Multi-tiered Systems of Support Statewide Survey will be released on May 1, with a closing date of May 31. This survey must be completed online by principals, and is required by the state of Vermont per 16 V.S.A. § 2904. The data collected from this survey provides the AOE with data regarding best practices of the VTmtss Framework used in schools. This link to the 2024-2025 VTmtss Survey Questions can help to prepare all necessary data before the Survey opens in May.

2025 Behavioral Threat Assessment Team Workshops - May 8 and 9
Audience: Current and Future School BTA Team Members
The Agency of Education, in partnership with the Vermont School Safety Center, is pleased to announce a series of upcoming Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) Team workshops, to be held on May 8 and 9. These workshops are designed to support current and future BTA teams in building and maintaining effective BTA programs under the new requirements of Act 29 (2023). These sessions will be half-day, in-person workshops with an opportunity to attend either a morning session (for new or prospective team members) or an afternoon session (for more experienced team members).
Please note that these workshops are an optional, separate offering from the required annual BTA training.

Welcome All: From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe
Audience: Vermont Educators and Administrators
On May 16 & 17, Burlington School District will be hosting Welcome All: Conference on the Education of Immigrant and Refugee Students. This free program is open to all Vermont educators and administrators who would like to learn more about serving multilingual English learners. The AOE’s Stephanie Vogel and Tracy Dolan will be presenting at the conference about statewide supports for multilingual learners. The conference will include school visits, and sessions will be held at Champlain College. There are free hotel rooms available on a first come, first served basis. If interested, please register to attend.

Social Studies Conference: Call For Proposals
Audience: Curriculum Directors, K-12 Educators, Community Members
Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies (VASS) is calling for proposals for breakout sessions at their 2025 annual conference, which will be held on Thursday, November 20, at the Capitol Plaza and Vermont Historical Society in Montpelier. The theme of the 2025 conference is “Recognizing the 250th and Envisioning What's Next”. Please consider submitting a proposal for a breakout session.

Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training in Rutland
Audience: Educators, Support Staff, School Teams
The BEST Project is offering Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training (full certification or refresher training) on April 29, at the Franklin Events Center in Rutland. Register by April 22 to secure your spot. This workshop will include recognizing the stages of an escalating crisis, learning evidence-based techniques to appropriately de-escalate, safe and non-harmful physical intervention techniques, and creating a safer learning environment and culture of safety.
