Licensing Updates
Audience: Vermont Educators
The AOE is revising the current transcript review process. For educators who are considering adding an endorsement through transcript review, we encourage you to submit your application prior to January 1, 2017 to ensure no disruption or delay in reviewing your request. The 2017 renewal season begins January 9, 2017. You will not be able to access an application until this time, however, you can continue to upload professional learning documentation. There are 3,389 educators who are up for renewal this cycle. More than half will need to provide fingerprint validation due or Criminal Record Check (CRC). The Agency will be sending an email to those needing CRC information within the next two weeks. To ensure your license is not held up due to the lack of CRC validation, please complete the required information quickly. Renewal notification and all Agency communication to you will be sent to your primary email address noted in your online account. Please check with your local/regional Standards Board regarding information on renewing your license through the online system.

Just a reminder that the TS GOLD Fall Checkpoints are due by this Sunday, December 4, 2016. Kudos to those of you who've already completed them. There is a lot of helpful information on how to complete your checkpoints - just log in to your TS GOLD account and click the "help" link in the upper right-hand corner. Checkpoints is the eighth topic from the top in the "help" menu.

Relocation and Family Reunification Facilitated Dialogue Training
Audience: Superintendents, Principals and School Crisis Planning Team Members
The Relocation and Family Reunification is another installment of the school safety facilitated dialogue training. The training is designed to initiate a conversation with your staff about how your school would respond to an event where you had to evacuate the school for an extended period of time and to familiarize you with current school emergency operations plans, policies, and procedures. We recommend that school leaders share this training with key school decision makers during monthly/quarterly school crisis planning team meetings.

Celebrate Hour of Code in Vermont
Is your school participating in Hour of Code this year? The celebration runs from December 5 - 9, 2016. Put your school on the map of Vermont schools participating, and use this Vermont-based website to share your stories about activities at your school. Invite state leaders from your region to take part in your local activities.

What If Wednesday
Audience: Superintendents, Principals and School Crisis Planning Team Members
The “What if Wednesday” for December 1, 2016, is a school safety initiative that is designed to stimulate a conversation about school emergency preparedness. Participants should read the summary of the “fictional” school safety incident and then answer the multiple choice question with the appropriate response action to be taken for the specific emergency. All responses are anonymous but please click "submit" when finished.

Hybrid Course Announcement: Theory and Practice of Personalized Learning
The UVM Department of Education is offering a new hybrid course to help educators and school leaders make the transition to personalized learning. This spring semester course will explore different conceptions and models of personalization, the theories of learning, human development, and schooling that underlie this approach, and strategies for putting the theory of personalization into practice. The course will be personalized to allow participants to establish their own goals based on their professional needs, and pursue their own pathways through a bank of resources the instructor has compiled related to personalized learning. 2017 BEST/MTSS Summer Institute
Are you interested in presenting a workshop at the 2017 BEST/MTSS Summer Institute? The planning committee is now accepting workshop proposals for the institute. This year's institute will be held June 26- 29, 2017 at the Killington Grand Hotel. Workshop sessions are on June 28, 2017, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Proposals are due January 4, 2017. Future Goals - Free Online STEM Resource
EverFi has partnered with the NHL and the Boston Bruins to bring Future Goals - Hockey Scholar to schools in Vermont at no cost. Future Goals is an interactive online platform for students to explore STEM skills in science, engineering, and math. Activities include measuring angles, coordinate planes, thermodynamics, velocity, phases of matter, kinetic and potential energy and more. The course features twelve 20-minute lessons that are mapped to NGSS and VT Science standards, and teacher can track and monitor student progress as they work through the course. Simplifying Fractions
The Simplifying Fractions course, appropriate for teachers in grades 3 - 8, will explore research on how students develop a deep understanding of fractional concepts. Participants will look at both the learning progressions and the standards of progression of the Vermont Common Core State Standards along with research from the Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP). The course will be held on Wednesdays January 4 and 18, 2017, February 1 and 15, 2017, March 1, 15, 22, and 29, 2017, April 12, 2017, and May 3, 2017, at Lamoille Union High School in Hyde Park, Vermont.
