Adult Education and Literacy Services Grant Application Deadline is April 25
Audience: Eligible Organizations That Can Provide Adult Education and Literacy Services
The deadline of April 25 is approaching to submit an Adult Education and Literacy Services grant application to the Agency of Education for the July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028 grant period. Show how your organization could help thousands of Vermonters aged 16 and older meet their career, education, and civics goals!

Open Application for Student Membership on State Board of Education
Audience: Vermont Secondary Students, Superintendents, Principals, CTE Directors, Guidance Counselors, Secondary Educators
The Governor’s Office is seeking a student representative for the State Board of Education. This appointment will be for a two-year term (first year as a non-voting member and the second year as a voting member). Rising sophomores and rising juniors are encouraged to apply. Candidates may apply using the Application for Gubernatorial Appointment. The application deadline is Monday, April 28. Save the Date: 2025 Behavioral Threat Assessment Workshops, May 8-9
Audience: Current and Prospective BTA Team Members
The AOE, in partnership with the Vermont School Safety Center, is pleased to announce a series of upcoming Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) Team workshops. These workshops are designed to support current and future BTA teams in building and maintaining effective BTA programs under the new requirements of Act 29 (2023). These sessions will be half-day, in-person workshops with an opportunity to attend either a morning session (for new or prospective team members) or an afternoon session (for more experienced team members). Please note that these workshops are an optional, separate offering from the required annual BTA training. More information, including locations, will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Vermont Public: Classical Playlists
Audience: Vermont Educators
For break weeks, Vermont Public Classical invites families to enjoy classical music curated for young listeners. These thematic one-hour playlists use Spotify to inspire a new generation of classical music listeners. Enjoy compositions with titles inspired by the seasons, listen to world music, or behold music that captures an array of relatable emotions. Choose your own family adventure and playlist. Suicide Prevention Materials Available to Schools at No Charge
Audience: Superintendents, Principals, School Counselors and Nurses
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has an online store where anyone can access printed materials related to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Schools can order stickers, magnets, wallet cards, posters, and more, all at no charge to the school.

The BEST/VTmtss Summer Institute is thoughtfully designed to enhance skills and rejuvenate your approach to supporting social, emotional, and behavioral well-being for all within Vermont’s multi-tiered system of supports. This year’s theme is “Shining Brighter Together: Igniting Passion, Well-being, and Joy in Education.” Keynote and general session speakers include Kathleen Lane, Shelley Moore, and Howard Moody. Registration is now open!

Vermont History Teacher of the Year
Audience: Administrators, K-12 Social Studies Teachers
The Vermont History Teacher of the Year competition is seeking nominations. Candidates must be full-time K–12 educators, with a minimum of three years teaching experience, and teach American history (including state and local history) as either an individual subject or as part of other subjects (e.g., with ELA). The Vermont History Teacher of the Year will go on to compete at the national level through this Gilder Lehrman Institute opportunity. The deadline for nominations is April 30.

The Vermont 250th in the Classroom
Audience: Administrators, Curriculum Directors, K-12 Educators, CTE Directors, Adult Education Educators, Afterschool Educators
The Vermont 250th in the Classroom document has been shared on the Vermont’s 250th Educational Resources page. The purpose of this document is to provide lessons and resources to engage students in learning about the founding of the nation and the critical role that Vermont and Vermonters played in the War for Independence and the legacy they left on America. Members of the Committee have identified lessons and resources that align with the four themes established by the Vermont 250th Commission on which to focus the commemoration of the Semiquincentennial; suggested grade levels have also been provided for elementary, middle, and high school students.
