Presentation: What Happens When a School Budget Doesn't Pass?

The Agency of Education has prepared a [slide deck] and [one page handout] providing clarifying information for districts without a passed budget. These resources provide both statute and plain language context for districts without a passed budget as of July 1, 2024.  There are a few components to consider and plan for when a district does not have a passed budget by the beginning of a new fiscal year.

The intent of these resources is to help districts navigate budget information sessions, and respond to misperceptions about what happens if a district starts a new fiscal year without a budget.

Letter: GunSafeVT Family Letter Template

The Agency of Education is participating in the Gun Safe VT initiative lead by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont, the Vermont Attorney General's office, UVM Medical center, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Vermont State Police, and others.

As part of this initiative the Agency is sharing a suggested parent and family letter template for use by schools. The letter encourages families to adopt safe gun storage practices, such as the use of locked firearm cabinets, safe storage of ammunition, and use of devices like trigger locks to secure firearms.
